Gone are the days when Problem Solving and Decision Making often happened within the four walls of a top boss’s cabin. In the beginning of this century - As we blinked our eyes, the world changed, cabins broke down to give way to open offices, traditional management hierarchy collapsed and saw a horizontal spread. With delegation and authority batons being passed to the executive and trainee levels, Problem Solving and Decision Making skills became a must have quality at all levels in an organization. In simple words it is – have it or leave it.
That’s less said - Just learning the skill of solving problems and taking good decisions isn’t enough. Today, the modern workplace demands the new age executives and managers to expand their potential of creative thinking and bring it to the table while solving problems and making decisions. There is one more news for you, Creativity, Problem Solving and Decision Making skills are no more confined to the management and leadership levels, students who aspire for their dream jobs to be a reality, also will have to bring these skills along with their candidature.
That is why, we decided to offer this practical and highly researched course with all these 3 skills clubbed into 1 course so that you may not have to search anywhere - anymore.
If at any point of your life, you ever felt the need to work upon your creative thinking ability or your problem solving skills or even your decision making capability, look no further, this course is just the right one for you.

3D Modelling and Virtual Reality Tour of the Library’s i-Space
A virtual reality tour was developed by a student that allows the user to navigate and explore the virtual Library’s i-Space (4/F North Wing) freely using a mouse and keyboard as playing a first-person shooter game. The student used 3DS MAX 3D modeling software to create a virtual space of i-Space and its 3D objects bit by bit including furniture, plants, laser printers, 3D printers and PCs video wall. Then, all these 3D objects are imported into Unity software to complete the VR game development. With his tremendous effort, user can get the first-person experience of the i-Space just like visiting in person and learn about what facilities provided in the Digital Makerspace. The web version of the virtual tour is available here: https://webapp.lib.polyu.edu.hk/ispaceVR/

With the advancement of technologies, we are now a lot easier to access the internet with different electronic widgets compared to the past decades. IoT technology is developed to make use of the vast usage of internet so as to create an environment for centralized control. Let’s look into the case of our home. When we feel that a room is dim, we have to switch on a light. Similarly, we are required to turn on a TV with a remote. “How about making a controller panel that can turn on all electronic appliances in our home?” One of the solutions of this question is making our home smarter with IoT.

During COVID-19 outbreak, people are staying at homes to lower the chance of infection. Having a long period lockdown, do you miss the moment you walk along a country park to enjoy a breath of fresh air? A student has developed a virtual Green Park with first-person view navigation, you can take a virtual walk and feel it by controlling the movement with a mouse and keyboard. This Park provides an auto-pilot feature, in which an i-Space cat will introduce the Park to you after selecting a self-guided tour function. Users can also fly a drone in the Park to experience a bird's eye view for the whole park.
The student uses 3D modeling software to create a virtual landscape of the Green Park and its 3D objects including plants, fountain, bench, direction board and buildings. "Created as part of the UNODC's Anti-Corruption Academic Initiative (ACAD), Global Corruption: Law, Theory & Practice is a key resource for lawyers, public officials, and business persons of tomorrow on anti-corruption laws and strategies. This book has been specifically created to make it easier for professors to offer a law school course on global corruption. The first chapter sets out the general context of global corruption: its nature and extent, and some views on its historical, social, economic and political dimensions. Each subsequent chapter sets out international standards and requirements in respect to combating corruption - mainly in the UN Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) and the OECD Bribery of Foreign Officials Convention (OECD Convention). The laws of the United States and United Kingdom are then set out as examples of how those Convention standards and requirements are met in two influential jurisdictions. "Being productive is really just about understanding the productivity equation and then figuring out which bits we need to optimise to apply to our own lives". In this first of a series of classes, I want to explore the idea of productivity in more depth - break down the concept into principles and theories as well as laws and powers to provide the foundation to enable us all to understand productivity on a more fundamental level so that we can all work towards living happier, more productive lives. The Productivity Equation The first video introduces the productivity equation that serves as a the underlying theme throughout this course. We'll look at the key components including the extra 'ingredient' that I think is often missing in discussions around productivity and I'll introduce the analogy involving the Pilot, the Plane and the Engineer. Section One - Myths Following the introduction to the productivity equation, in the first section we'll take a look at three of the key myths that often surround discussions about productivity. We'll explore issues around 'not having enough time', not being able to summon up the motivation as well as the prevalent belief in multitasking. Section Two - Laws The second section looks at a triumvirate of key laws associated with productivity. We'll begin by looking at time management linked to Parkinson's law then look at the value in understanding the Pareto Principle before finally exploring how one of the fundamental laws of physics can be usefully applied in the realm of productivity. Section Three - Powers The third section moves into the realm of powers - specifically, how we can use the power of habits as well as how we can powerfully leverage our time spent procrastinating or relaxing so that we can improve our productivity more broadly. The Fun Factor The final video explores the component of the productivity equation which I think is often missing when people discuss productivity and that is the fun factor. We'll explore how enjoyment is fundamental to our productivity and how a change in mindset towards this enjoyment can have a positive effect on our productivity immediately.

There are several textbooks for students whose majors include internships in human services, broadly defined, such case management, counseling, criminal justice, and social work. Most of these books are written in an academic format. Typically, it involves an introduction to a theoretical orientation that concerns working with others followed by a series of chapters devoted to learning professional skills associated with a given discipline. This approach is fine, as far as it goes, but also has two drawbacks. One is that the texts are usually sold by main stream publishers, which means they are expensive. Another is that they seldom address what might be described as the experiential dimension of the internship that most beginners face on their own. This new book addresses both concerns. The fact that it is offered as a free text addresses the first issue, of course, but the second one requires a new approach. It began with asking students to talk about what they experienced when going through their first internship and what they would tell others about how to make it a successful one. That work led to a structured narrative about basic practical topics, such as finding an internship, getting started there, making effective use of supervision, understanding ethics, appreciating cultural diversity, becoming competent, and completing the internship. The text includes descriptions, suggestions, and exercises. It may be used as either a primary course text or, due to its relative brevity, a supplemental one. Although the lead editor is an experienced clinician and professor who has supervised internships for a variety of human services majors over many years, the book was written with and for students to make it more readable and more useful.
