The Applied Physics Department has developed a number of methodologies that permit “Out-of-Lab” experimental teaching: Remote control of automated setups housed in PolyU, Mobile apps-based labs, and an Arduino system with external portable sensors as the extension of the apps. The design and capabilities of these various methods will be introduced, and their deployment in courses are showcased. We hope to initiate discussions on possible use in other disciplines.

After a year of hybrid teaching, it is now time to review the experience, share good practices and the lessons learned, and plan for the coming year. Given recent events, it is no surprise that PolyU and other universities are starting to place greater emphasis on Internationalisation at Home (IaH) as a means of creating alternative opportunities for global engagement. With this in mind, the University has set aside Teaching Development Grant (TDG) seed money for each department to set up its own respective project. This series of sharing sessions will briefly juxtapose the difference between Internationalisation and IaH, provide a brief guideline of expectations in support of the project proposals, and feature valuable insights from key educators who have worked with overseas partners and developed their own strategies for broadening our students' horizons.

"The "OER Toolkit for Trades Instructors: Adopting an Open Education Resource & Integrating it into a Trades Course" illustrates a snapshot of the OER adoption process. This Toolkit is designed to answer questions posed by BC Trades instructors specifically, but the steps described will also support similar projects in other disciplines and programs. The Toolkit is presented in the form of a (possible) case study, which is based on questions and issues shared by Trades instructors from three BC post-secondary institutions: Camosun College, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, and University of the Fraser Valley.
