This set of Presentations comprises an introductory course in Petroleum Geomechanics (Petroleum Rock Mechanics). The presentations start by introducing the basics of rock behaviour and design, initial conditions such as stress and temperature, and then move on to applications in areas such as borehole stability and stress changes in reservoirs. An attempt has been made to cover all of the major issues in Petroleum Geomechanics, but the materials also reflect the interests of the author to some degree.
There are approximately 35-50 hours of lecture material, depending how it is presented, and whether there are problems presented and worked out in class by participants. The materials are suitable for 4th-year students in Petroleum Engineering, Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, although the materials could be used as the basis of a late 3rd-year course providing the students have had exposure to stress and strain in earth materials such as a course in Structural and Petroleum Geology, or an introductory course in Soil Mechanics.
As a professional short course, the materials can be presented in 35 hours, or selected modules can be added or left aside. As a courtesy, if you use these materials and develop modules of your own, develop clear problems sets, or improve these materials, please send a copy to mauriced@uwaterloo.ca, as I am always looking for better ways to present ideas and concepts.

Present value (PV) is the current value of a future sum of money or stream of cash flows given a specified rate of return. Future cash flows are discounted at the discount rate, and the higher the discount rate, the lower the present value of the future cash flows. Determining the appropriate discount rate is the key to properly valuing future cash flows, whether they be earnings or debt obligations. In this page, you will learn about: (1) Present value states that an amount of money today is worth more than the same amount in the future. (2) In other words, present value shows that money received in the future is not worth as much as an equal amount received today. (3) Unspent money today could lose value in the future by an implied annual rate due to inflation or the rate of return if the money was invested. (4) Calculating present value involves assuming that a rate of return could be earned on the funds over the period.

Since 1979, we have been campaigning against gobbledygook, jargon and misleading public information. We have helped many government departments and other official organisations with their documents, reports and publications. We believe that everyone should have access to clear and concise information. The campaign officially began after founder, Chrissie Maher OBE, publicly shredded hundreds of official documents in Parliament Square, London. Entirely independent, we fund our work through our commercial services, which include editing and training. We have worked with thousands of organisations including many UK government departments, public authorities and international banks, helping them make sure their public information is as clear as possible. Our Crystal Mark now appears on more than 23,000 documents worldwide. Launched in 1990, and the first mark of its kind, the Crystal Mark is used by over 1600 organisations who want to provide the clearest possible information.

For most people, an anatomy atlas is a large book with illustrations of the different regions and systems of the body. Each region is labeled with the names of the organs and other anatomic structures that compose it. A textual description often describes the structures, their interrelationship, and their function. Taken together, the collection of information that makes up an atlas paints a comprehensive view of the body and how it works. For our purposes, we generalize the definition of anatomy atlases to include any annotated collection of spatially organized medical information. This definition includes digital atlases as well as printed books. This broader view also covers specialized atlases such as those used in radiology, pathology, and microscopy.

We're like Duolingo for learning to code. When learning to code, most people get stuck on the "bridge" between memorizing syntax and understanding the logic that makes it all work. We believe the most effective way to learn a programming language is to break the process into three phases:(1)Memorize syntax; (2) Solve problems; and (3) Make stuff. Most beginners jump from memorizing syntax directly into making stuff (or trying) without fully understanding how syntax is used to solve problems. In other words, they haven't learned how to think like a programmer, yet they're trying to solve problems like a programmer. Edabit was created to bridge this gap, while also making the process fun and addictive.
