This video is made by Dr. Pearl Lin and Dr. Clare Fung's project, "Great Case of Marketing in the Hospitality and Tourism Industry." A special thanks to Yi Liang, who provided information and insights for this video. This case discusses the marketing strategy of Xiangyan Rock Tea, a premium oolong tea brand from the Wuyi Mountain region of China. The company recognized the importance of accurately positioning its high-quality tea and targeting potential customers with the purchasing power and demand for such products. By leveraging relationships with influential figures in the local real estate and cultural tourism industries, the company could effectively introduce its tea to a select group of middle and high-level consumers. The company significantly increased its revenue and established a loyal customer base through personalized product samples, constant communication, and building trust. The case highlights the value of thorough market segmentation, relationship-driven promotion, and emotional preparation in marketing premium tea products to a specific, high-net-worth target audience.

PAIR distinguished lecture series: an overview of high performance computing and future requirements
In this talk, we examine how high performance computing has changed over the last ten years and look toward the future in terms of trends. These changes have had and will continue to impact our numerical scientific software significantly. A new generation of software libraries and algorithms are needed for the effective and reliable use of (wide area) dynamic, distributed, and parallel environments. Some of the software and algorithm challenges have already been encountered, such as the management of communication and memory hierarchies through a combination of compile-time and run-time techniques, but the increased scale of computation, depth of memory hierarchies, range of latencies, and increased run-time environment variability will make these problems much harder.

You’re sitting down for dinner with an old friend to catch up. You’re in the middle of sharing an anecdote when their phone dings. Their eyes shift to the screen, and they slide their device into their lap to send a reply.
Most of us have been on both sides of this scenario, and while it may seem harmless, these kinds of distractions during our everyday interactions can make people feel unheard or unimportant, fragment our attention, and hurt our relationships. On the other hand, research shows that active listening — putting your full focus on your conversational partner to truly understand their message — can help us anticipate problems, resolve conflicts, expand our knowledge and build trust.
Like any skill, active listening can be practiced and cultivated. Here are three key ways to become a better listener.

Everyone experiences adversity and stress at some level, whether it’s the pressure to perform in school or work, relationship problems, financial difficulties, or simply the number of tasks to do in a short period of time. All stress isn’t bad, but chronic stress can take its toll on our minds, bodies, and behavior. Research has shown that people can learn and use specific resilience skills (such as optimistic thinking, relaxation strategies, choosing one’s attention) and positive routines (good sleep, scheduling in fun, and so on) in order to better manage stress, bounce back quicker after a setback, be more effective in their academic and vocational pursuits, develop stronger relationships with others, be physically and mentally healthy, and be satisfied with their lives overall. In short, resilience is ordinary magic and can be learned. It does not necessarily mean that you have to be born resilient or get lucky in life. The purpose of this course is to teach individuals the science behind becoming a resilient person. Stated simply, resilience is the ability to survive and thrive. Resiliency is not only about your ability to positively adapt in the face of adverse or challenging circumstances (that is, survive), but it is also about learning the positive skills, strategies and routines that enable you to live a happy, fulfilling, and meaningful life (in other words, thrive). This course gives you the permission to take care of yourself in order to effectively manage life stressors and do what matters most in life.
By the end of this course, you will have learned about the knowledge and skills that you can apply in your life now and in the future to be a resilient person.
