The ELC professional development model was designed to improve the quality of teacher candidates’ Practicum field placements and align teaching in field placements with Learning Standards used in the teacher education program. Teams of four educators from varied settings worked in a Practicum placement setting for one semester to improve their teaching and align it with Learning Standards. An action research approach improved teaching challenges teams faced. Research articles were read to improve teams’ teaching challenges by implementing one agreed strategy. Teams video-recorded, assessed, and reflected on the impact of the strategy on their teaching, on teacher candidates’ learning and on children’s learning. This text compiles six case studies from this model to illustrate how teaching challenges were improved. Appropriate for practiced educators as well as educators in training, this text provides a real world look into applying Learning Standards in early childhood classrooms.

In this seminar we will present statistics related to online teaching during Semester 2 together with student feedback about their experience of online teaching. Analytics relating to usage of Learn@PolyU, uRewind and synchronous platforms such as Bb Collaborate and MS Teams provide a picture of how online teaching was conducted during the suspension of on-campus classes. Combined with student feedback from surveys and via the SFQ, this information is useful for informing teaching improvement and enhancement as well as for seeing what other teachers did online during this period.

Join us online for Good Practices in Blended Learning: A Five Stage Model to learn how to integrate online synchronous and asynchronous activities into a structured programme. For online learning to be successful and enjoyable, students need to be supported through a developmental process, and the Five Stage model (Salmon, 2000) offers essential support and development to students at each stage as they build up expertise in learning online. Participants in this session will be able to: 1. Use technology as a lever to apply Chickering and Gamson's (1987) Seven Principles in blended learning and teaching 2.
