This reader is an Open Educational Resource, meant to accompany a graduate or higher-level undergraduate university course in climate change resilience, adaptation, and/or planning. While the material is geared toward students in urban and regional planning, it may also be of interest to students of urban studies, public health, geography, political science, sociology, risk management, and others. Each section of this volume includes (1) an introductory summary, (2) a reading list with full text articles, (3) student exercises meant to enhance understanding and facilitate in-class discussion, and (4) additional discussion prompts or activities for instructors to use in class. The format of materials is intended to convey key concepts, while leaving ample space for student exploration, discourse, and creativity. Lessons may culminate in an applied, imaginative final project, a sample framework of which is provided at the end of Section VI.

This video gives a brief overview of this ingenious method of compressing air using only the power of water. The way a trompe harnesses the power of water to generate compressed air with no moving parts is fascinating and its use is seeing a small revival in modern days. A trompe can be useful in off-grid aquaponics and hydroponic systems that need aeration of the water. And, in fact, the inspiration for this video came from the late Bruce Leavitt, a mining engineer who pioneered the use of small trompes for aeration and treatment of mining water in remote locations without access to electricity.

Welcome to Crash Course Geography hosted by Alizé Carrère! This course with be split into two parts. In the first half, we will focus on physical geography or the processes and phenomena of the physical world both above and below the Earth's surface. We'll ask questions like, "why is the seafloor so young when the Earth is so old?" or try to identify why winds and ocean currents are so important to life on Earth. Then we'll turn our focus to human geography and explore the ways people occupy the Earth's surface. Like how we've moved, settled, and used the land, resources and space. But ther'e not always a clear line dividing the physical and human, because really, geography is telling the story of the Earth. We'll hope you'll join us on this journey starting November 30, 2020!

In 50 episodes, Dr. Deboki Chakravarti will teach you organic chemistry. This course is based on sophomore-level college material, covering topics from Organic Chemistry I and II. It was developed with 9 reference texts and journal articles on specialized topics in organic chemistry, in particular: Organic Chemistry texts by Brown, Foote, Iverson and Ansyln (8th ed.); Clayden, Greeves and Warren (2nd ed.); McMurry (9th ed.) By the end of this course, you will be able to: * Recognize and name the major functional groups in organic compounds * Understand the influence of molecular structure and conformation on chemical properties and reactivity * Identify the possible reactions for a given organic compound and select reasonable reaction mechanisms given the reactant structure and functional groups * Sketch a mechanism for an organic reaction, showing valid arrow-pushing and formal charges * Develop and compare synthetic routes to a target molecule from a starting compound * Interpret spectra (e.g. IR, NMR, MS, UV/vis) and understand how they are used in structure determination * Connect the chemical properties of organic compounds to their real-world applications (e.g. in polymers, medicine, and biochemistry).
