This is a showcase event on “Hybrid Teaching” (HT). Opening with a summary on the good practices, challenges and issues raised by PolyU colleagues on HT, Professor Gilly Salmon will then discuss opportunities and practice for good HT. She will describe research-based models and processes that are easily adopted by staff and lead to greater engagement and achievement for students. She will also offer evidence-based concepts that have stood the test of time but are suitable for 2021 and beyond: collaborative design, equivalence, engagement and scaffolding through the 5-stage model and e-tivities. These will be followed by Q&A and an open discussion on what PolyU can do to improve in HT.

Lecture recordings have become an essential part of face-to-face, online and hybrid learning. They also offer many additional opportunities for active learning. This two-part, hands-on, workshop series is designed to help you make the most of your recordings, transforming them into an engaging learning resource that will increase students’ participation and interaction.
This session, the second in a two-part series, explores how students can use the note-taking and discussion tools in uRewind to engage more deeply with the content of your lecture recording. It also looks at how you can create quizzes that require students to summarise what they have watched. By the end of this session, you will be able to:
- design more complex quiz questions that develop the skill of summarising
- help students write contextualised, personal reflections on parts of your lecture recording
- engage students in discussions based around key moments in your video.

PolyU's strategic plan aims to (1) instill in students the desire to learn and strengthen their ability to learn to learn, (2) enhance the student learning experience through the use of interactive pedagogies, (3) transform physical and virtual learning spaces to facilitate new teaching and learning pedagogies. In this webinar, organized by School of Nursing (SN) and in collaboration with the Educational Development Centre (EDC), Dr. Bryan Ho will share his 4-stage model of Virtual Tutorials that he used to cater to the above-mentioned PolyU aims. His data also indicated that this model is able to enhance the self-directed learning abilities. He loves the opportunity to disseminate his experience to other colleagues in PolyU.

In this workshop, we will introduce a novel active-learning rewards-based (ALRB) approach supported by a prototype system to motivate students to be more active learners. We will describe how rubrics are assigned to different active learning pedagogies to reward students for their active engagement. The ALRB approach will be demonstrated with a supporting system and rewards will be given to the audience to show how instructors can use the ALRB approach in any face-to-face, hybrid or purely virtual environment.
