Air transport liberalisation has been marked by two major developments, i.e. the advent of the hub-and-spoke network and the emergence of Low Fare Airlines (LFAs). All major Full Service Network Carrier (FSNCs) have heavily relied on hub operations to effectively compete in the long-haul market against LFAs which until recently focused on point-to-point, short-haul services. Recent competiton dynamics, however, have led to the gradual blurring of the different airline business models. LFAs have now established strong bases in satellite/airports and/or in low-cost terminals of major airports. Moreover, they have introduced long-haul flights thus competing with FSNCs at a new level. The lecture will highlight all the above issues focusing on their strategic business and geopolitical implications for aiport hubs. It will also discuss how Hong Kong International Airport can build on its current advantages to play focal role in the new environment.

"Microeconomics: Markets, Methods, and Models by D. Curtis and I. Irvine provides concise yet complete coverage of introductory microeconomic theory, application and policy. The text begins with an explanation and development of the standard tools of analysis in the discipline and carries on to investigate the meaning of 'well-being' in the context of an efficient use of the economy's resources. An understanding of individual optimizing behaviour is developed, and this behaviour is in turn used to link household decisions on savings with firms' decisions on production, expansion and investment. The text then explores behaviour in a variety of different market structures. The role of the government is examined, and the key elements in the modern theory of international trade are developed. Opportunity cost, a global economy and behavioural responses to incentives are the dominant themes. Examples are domestic and international in their subject matter and are of the modern era. This text is intended for a one-semester course, and can be used in a two-semester sequence with the companion text, Macroeconomics: Theory, Markets, and Policy. The three introductory chapters and the International Trade chapter (Chapter 15) are common to both books."--BC Campus website.

Business Mathematics was written to meet the needs of a twenty-first century student. It takes a systematic approach to helping students learn how to think and centers on a structured process termed the PUPP Model (Plan, Understand, Perform, and Present). This process is found throughout the text and in every guided example to help students develop a step-by-step problem-solving approach. This textbook simplifies and integrates annuity types and variable calculations, utilizes relevant algebraic symbols, and is integrated with the Texas Instruments BAII+ calculator. It also contains structured exercises, annotated and detailed formulas, and relevant personal and professional applications in discussion, guided examples, case studies, and even homework questions.

This book presents the Scaling Management Framework, a model based on collected experiences from companies that have already made the journey to give software a central role within the organization. The model is unique because it suggests a holistic method to analyze and plan your journey. It simply means that you can’t just focus solely on your products or services. You also have to look closely at your processes and your organization, the way you make decisions and get things done. Inevitably, these will have to change. This book comes with a map, a compass, and suggested journeys along with selected travel stories comprising best practices and lessons learned from past digitalization journeys. Use the map to find your way in the digitalization landscape, and use the compass to find the direction of your journey. How do you transform your organization when software is becoming a critical part of your business? Software has changed the rules of the game. The world talks about the digitalization in industry and society – how the focus has shifted from producing tangible things towards software and services. This trend started many years ago, but is now affecting every company, whether it’s a software company or not. There are many companies that have already made a digitalization journey – and many are about to embark on this journey – like you.
