2023/24 Survey of Drug Use among Students
The 2023/2024 Survey of Drug Use among Students is a comprehensive empirical research report commissioned by the Narcotics Division of the Security Bureau, HKSAR Government. Continuing the longitudinal research series initiated in 1987/88, this large-scale statistical survey examines the prevalence, patterns, and underlying behavioral drivers of illicit drug, alcohol, and tobacco consumption among student populations across Hong Kong. The report provides quantitative data collected from upper primary, secondary, post-secondary, and international school students. Key focus areas include identifying primary substances of abuse (such as cannabis, cocaine, and emerging psychoactive substances), modes of drug procurement, social and peer influences, and post-pandemic shifts in youth social behavior. Furthermore, the survey evaluates student awareness of anti-drug educational initiatives, attitudes toward drug misuse risks, and willingness to seek professional help. Serving as an essential primary empirical document, this open-access report provides educators, school social workers, public health professionals, and policy analysts with critical data required to evaluate youth anti-drug campaigns, refine school-based intervention strategies, and formulate evidence-based public health policies in Hong Kong.
