This open access book is the first to systematically introduce the principles of urban informatics and its application to every aspect of the city that involves its functioning, control, management, and future planning. It introduces new models and tools being developed to understand and implement these technologies that enable cities to function more efficiently – to become ‘smart’ and ‘sustainable’. The smart city has quickly emerged as computers have become ever smaller to the point where they can be embedded into the very fabric of the city, as well as being central to new ways in which the population can communicate and act. When cities are wired in this way, they have the potential to become sentient and responsive, generating massive streams of ‘big’ data in real time as well as providing immense opportunities for extracting new forms of urban data through crowdsourcing. This book offers a comprehensive review of the methods that form the core of urban informatics from various kinds of urban remote sensing to new approaches to machine learning and statistical modelling. It provides a detailed technical introduction to the wide array of tools information scientists need to develop the key urban analytics that are fundamental to learning about the smart city, and it outlines ways in which these tools can be used to inform design and policy so that cities can become more efficient with a greater concern for environment and equity.

On the 20th of February 2021, a United Boeing 777-200, registration N772UA performing flight UA-328 from Denver,CO to Honolulu,HI (USA) with 231 passengers and 10 crew, was in the initial climb out of Denver's runway 25 when the right hand engine's (PW4077) inlet separated associated with the failure of the engine. The crew declared Mayday reporting an engine failure. The aircraft stopped the climb at about 13000 feet, the crew requested to return to Denver after running the checklists. ATC offered any runway, they would make it happen. The aircraft returned to Denver for a safe landing on runway 26 about 23 minutes after departure. The aircraft stopped on the runway for a check by emergency services. Emergency services advised of an active fire within the right hand engine and extinguished the fire a few minutes later. The aircraft was subsequently towed off the runway to a remote parking stand, where passengers disembarked and were bussed to the terminal. There were no injuries. The engine inlet fell into the neighbourhood of Broomfield,CO, located about 16nm west of Denver near 13th and Elmwood Street, the debris also struck through the roof of an adjacent house. Broomfield police reported that although debris impacted the neighbourhood and damaged a number of homes, there were no injuries on the ground. The debris field expands over a nautical mile. Ground observers reported hearing the sound of an explosion like bang, smoke and saw the debris falling down. The aircraft continued flying.

Present value (PV) is the current value of a future sum of money or stream of cash flows given a specified rate of return. Future cash flows are discounted at the discount rate, and the higher the discount rate, the lower the present value of the future cash flows. Determining the appropriate discount rate is the key to properly valuing future cash flows, whether they be earnings or debt obligations. (2) In other words, present value shows that money received in the future is not worth as much as an equal amount received today. Rock mass characterization and monitoring is based on information gathered at different levels that contributes to a good understanding of the rock mass behavior. Geological, geostructural and geomechanical information is needed to set up a reliable model of the rock mass. The development of advanced survey techniques, such as digital photogrammetry, laser scanning and SAR interferometry has supplied powerful instruments in several fields including rock mechanics, where some efforts have been dedicated to improve the quality and the quantity of information available. In this short course taught by relevant European experts, the basics of these techniques are briefly reviewed and a number of interesting rock mechanics applications will be shown.

AMBOSS was founded by doctors, for doctors, in 2012. A group of young residents became frustrated by the limitations of the medical education system: the multitude of disconnected resources available led to more time spent researching topics than mastering them. They took matters into their own hands and together completely reshaped the path to becoming a physician. They created AMBOSS, a digital medical resource that could single-handedly support students in the classroom as well as later on as a clinical companion.

Constant Air Volume System or CAV System is an all-air type HVAC system that uses constant air volume while the temperature of the supplied air is varied to achieve the desired heating or cooling. We discussed the single duct single-zone system, single duct multizone system with reheat coiled, and dual duct system. In CAV System Air handling unit fans are running at a constant speed resulting in a lot of energy consumption for supplying the air. In the Multizone reheat system, a lot of energy is consumed in heating the already cold air, so the CAV system is not energy efficient. That's CAV system is strictly restricted by many energy codes.
