Thousands of languages thrive across the globe, yet modern speech technology -- with all of its benefits -- supports just over a hundred. Computational linguist Kalika Bali dreams of a day when technology acts as a bridge instead of a barrier, working passionately to build new and inclusive systems for the millions who speak low-resource languages. In this perspective-shifting talk, she outlines what happens when a language is omitted from the digital landscape -- and what can be gained when communities keep pace with the future.

In 2013, the world learned that the NSA and its UK equivalent, GCHQ, routinely spied on the German government. Amid the outrage, artists Mathias Jud and Christoph Wachter thought: Well, if they're listening ... let's talk to them. With antennas mounted on the roof of the Swiss Embassy in Berlin's government district, they set up an open network that let the world send messages to US and UK spies listening nearby. It's one of three bold, often funny, and frankly subversive works detailed in this talk, which highlights the world's growing discontent with surveillance and closed networks.

From rockets to stock markets, many of humanity's most thrilling creations are powered by math. So why do kids lose interest in it? Conrad Wolfram says the part of math we teach -- calculation by hand -- isn't just tedious, it's mostly irrelevant to real mathematics and the real world. He presents his radical idea: teaching kids math through computer programming.

I am fortunate to be among the very first NTU EECS professors to offer two Mandarin-teaching MOOCs (massive open online courses) on NTU@Coursera. The two MOOCs are Machine Learning Foundations (Mathematical, Algorithmic) and Machine Learning Techniques and are based on the textbook Learning from Data: A Short Course that I co-authored. The book is consistently among the best sellers in Machine Learning on Amazon.
The slides of the MOOCs below are available as is with no explicit or implied warranties. The slides themselves are shared by CC-BY-NC 3.0, but the copyright of all materials (figures in particular) remain with the original copyright holder (in almost all cases the authors of the Learning from Data: A Short Course book).

Despite the recent increase in computing power and access to data over the last couple of decades, our ability to use the data within the decision making process is either lost or not maximized at all too often, we don't have a solid understanding of the questions being asked and how to apply the data correctly to the problem at hand.
This course has one purpose, and that is to share a methodology that can be used within data science, to ensure that the data used in problem solving is relevant and properly manipulated to address the question at hand.
Accordingly, in this course, you will learn:
- The major steps involved in tackling a data science problem.
- The major steps involved in practicing data science, from forming a concrete business or research problem, to collecting and analyzing data, to building a model, and understanding the feedback after model deployment.
- How data scientists think!

This course covers the fundamentals of advanced fluid mechanics: including its connections to continuum mechanics more broadly, hydrostatics, buoyancy and rigid body accelerations, inviscid flow, and the application of Bernoulli’s theorems, as well as applications of control volume analysis for more complex fluid flow problems of engineering interest. This course features lecture and demo videos, lecture concept checks, practice problems, and extensive problem sets.
This course is the first of a three-course sequence in incompressible fluid mechanics: Advanced Fluid Mechanics: Fundamentals, Advanced Fluid Mechanics: The Navier-Stokes Equations for Viscous Flows, and Advanced Fluid Mechanics: Potential Flows, Lift, Circulation & Boundary Layers. The series is based on material in MIT’s class 2.25 Advanced Fluid Mechanics, one of the most popular first-year graduate classes in MIT’s Mechanical Engineering Department. This series is designed to help people gain the ability to apply the governing equations, the principles of dimensional analysis and scaling theory to develop physically-based, approximate models of complex fluid physics phenomena. People who complete these three consecutive courses will be able to apply their knowledge to analyze and break down complex problems they may encounter in industrial and academic research settings.
`The material is of relevance to engineers and scientists across a wide range of mechanical chemical and process industries who must understand, analyze and optimize flow processes and fluids handling problems. Applications are drawn from hydraulics, aero & hydrodynamics as well as the chemical process industries.

Fuzzy Logic Toolbox™ provides MATLAB® functions, apps, and a Simulink® block for analyzing, designing, and simulating systems based on fuzzy logic. The product guides you through the steps of designing fuzzy inference systems. Functions are provided for many common methods, including fuzzy clustering and adaptive neurofuzzy learning. The toolbox lets you model complex system behaviors using simple logic rules, and then implement these rules in a fuzzy inference system. You can use it as a stand-alone fuzzy inference engine. Alternatively, you can use fuzzy inference blocks in Simulink and simulate the fuzzy systems within a comprehensive model of the entire dynamic system.

Agent based modeling focuses on the individual active components of a system. This is in contrast to both the more abstract system dynamics approach, and the process-focused discrete event method. With agent based modeling, active entities, known as agents, must be identified and their behavior defined. They may be people, households, vehicles, equipment, products, or companies, whatever is relevant to the system. Connections between them are established, environmental variables set, and simulations run. The global dynamics of the system then emerge from the interactions of the many individual behaviors. AnyLogic combines professional discrete event, system dynamics, and agent based modeling in one platform for efficient, no compromise results. In our white paper, Multimethod Simulation Modeling for Business Applications, we investigate these three main simulation modeling approaches and construct a multimethod model example to illustrate the advantages of multimethod simulation modeling. Read the white paper and see why hybrid models are always a better choice!

Binary Search is one of the most fundamental and useful algorithms in Computer Science. It describes the process of searching for a specific value in an ordered collection.
Terminology used in Binary Search:
(1) Target - the value that you are searching for
(2) Index - the current location that you are searching
(3) Left, Right - the indicies from which we use to maintain our search Space
(4) Mid - the index that we use to apply a condition to determine if we should search left or right

How, though, would an organization go about ensuring it is as accessible as it can be to all its potential clients or customers, including people with disabilities? This book has been created to answer this question, and to demystify "digital accessibility" as a business practice. After all, in practice, a project manager must continually draw on a wide base of knowledge, connecting, for instance, effective negotiating techniques with best practices for scheduling and resource allocation. No phase of a project unfolds in complete isolation from other phases of the project. Everything is connected. Our goal in this book is to create doors and windows in the normally self-contained silos of activities involved in technical project management, drawing connections between planning and risk management, between risk management and ethics, between ethics and supply chain management, just to name a few of the many connections you will read about in this book"--BCcampus website.
