A Good Flipped Classroom Case 14 from BEEE
This case study showcases the successful implementation of the flipped classroom approach in the course "Facility Management Professional Practice" (BSE551), taught by Professor Cynthia Hou from the Department of Building Environment and Energy Engineering. It explains the rationale behind adopting the flipped classroom model, outlines the step-by-step process of its implementation, evaluates its positive impact on student learning, and discusses the challenges encountered. The study also highlights best practices, such as supporting the flipped classroom approach with micro-modules, utilizing Padlet for both pre-class and in-class activities to promote a collaborative learning environment, and randomly grouping students to enhance group dynamics. Overall, the case demonstrates challenges including increased workload for instructors and difficulties in maintaining the micro-modules over time.
